FAQ's
What types of marble are there?
The variety is almost infinite. It is enough to see that there are marble quarries all over the world, each one with its own veins, geological processes and different minerals that have shaped it. The result is a wide range of veined colours and finishes. We offer you some of them in this page, but if you tell us what you are looking for, we will surely find the most suitable marble for you.
What type of marble is best?
When opting for one marble or another, the use to which it will be put must be taken into account. It is not the same whether it is for a floor, a cladding, a kitchen or a bathroom, for example. Contact us without obligation and we will advise you.
How do you know if the marble is of good quality?
It is important to ask for the technical characteristics and to seek professional advice, as all that glitters is not marble.
Which is better for the bathroom, marble or granite?
For us, a good choice is to opt for marble walls and a floor and worktop of the same granite. Wherever marble is used, care should be taken with cleaning products and acids should always be avoided: lemon, vinegar, hydrochloric acid…
How to clean marble?
It is best to use clean water and a neutral detergent, always avoiding bleaches and products containing acids.
Which marble is best for a kitchen?
At Pimargra, we recommend granite and quartzite to start with, but nowadays there are advanced treatments that allow marble to be used in the kitchen with peace of mind.
What spoils marble?
If conservation advice is followed, marble is eternal. This is how so many marble works from the history of art and architecture have survived to the present day. What can damage marble is the finish given to it if it comes into contact with corrosive products and acids.
What types of granite are there?
It is estimated that there are around 500 different colours. In Galicia alone, without going any further, 40 varieties are marketed and we can offer them to you. Bearing in mind that there is granite all over the Earth, to the large amount of recognised granites we must add those that are not exploited for various reasons.
What is sandstone and what is it used for?
Sandstone is mainly used for facades, but there are many other uses. In France, for example, a Spanish sandstone is used for the restoration of historical monuments in that country.
What are the types of stones in construction?
The range of stones suitable for use in construction is as varied as the architectural styles, uses and tastes of the designer and the final decision-maker. It is important to seek advice from architects and planners as well as from material experts.
What stones are used for facades?
In addition to what we said in the previous question, the choice also depends on where the construction site is located. If it is near the sea or if it will suffer sudden temperature changes in summer and winter, for example. In each case, it is advisable to carry out a study in order to make a decision.
What is the use of basalt in architecture?
Basalt is mainly used for facades, in civil and private works.
Which is harder, granite or basalt?
There is no single granite, just as there is no single basalt; one would have to look at the technical characteristics of each material.
